WoW Skinning Guide

Skinning is a very easy skill to level and can be quite profitable depending on leather prices on your server. Skinning is a very nice profession to level while you are leveling your character to 80 and also if you have leatherworking it helps out with that a whole lot. Although skinning may not be the greatest money making profession and doesn’t seem as profitable once maxed out as other professions it is very easy and does not cost you any gold (seeing as you skin mobs and don’t use materials like other professions)

It is nice to just level the profession as you level though, and it is very much worth the extra two seconds or so to right click that mob and skin it especially when you get to outlands and when you reach northrend you get a shot at skinning an artic fur which can sell for 50-100g depending on server. But anyways, let’s get started. I’ll be alternating between horde and alliance until I reach the levels where both factions can use the zone.

Alliance 1-75

For these levels you will want to head to Dun Morogh and kill and skin Craig Boars and Wndigos. These mobs range from level 1-10 so if you’re doing this at 80 you can expect these to go very fast. You will level for pretty much every mob you skin so you can get the first 75 levels done in just a few minutes unless you’re doing this on a new character.

Learn Journeyman Skinning

Alliance 75-130

Now you will want to head to Loch Modan. Here you will be killing bears, boars, and Threshadons. The mobs here will be ranging from level 14-20 so still easy kills if you’re doing this at a higher level.

Alliance 130-180

Learn Expert Skinning at 150

Next stop, Wetlands. In this zone you will be killing Crocolisks, Raptors, and Whelps. The mobs here will range from levels 20-29 so still easy killin if you’re higher leveled. You should start in the west part of the zone and work your way to the east while killing mobs and skinning them.

Horde 1-75

Horde skinning is very easy for 1-180, you will start out in Durotar killing Mottled Boars and Scorpids which range from levels 1-10 and are very easy to kill.

Learn Journeyman Skinning

The next zone you will be entering is just to the west of durotar, which is The Barrens. Head over there and begin killing the plainstriders and prowlers which will range from levels 10-25.

Horde 130-180

Learn Expert Skinning at 150

Now you will head directly south of The Barrens to Thousand Needles. In this zone you will be killing Hyenas, Lions, Wyverns, and Thunderhawks which will range from levels 25-31.

Now you have reached the point where you will be in zones with both Horde and Alliance and your first zone will be one where the skinable mobs are in a huge abundance and are very easy to find.

180-220

Now head on over to Stranglethorn Vale and start killing the Raptors, Panthers, and Tigers which will be ranging from levels 30-37. These mobs are all over the place so these leves will be going pretty fast.

220-250

At 225 Learn Artisan Skinning

Now you’ll head over to the Gurubashi Arena in Stranglethorn and kill some Raptors, Gorillas, and Basillisks which will be ranging from levels 37-44.

250-300

For these levels you have a couple of options of where you’d like to go to continue leveling your skinning. The first is Azshara where you would be killing Stags and Hippogryphs ranging from levels 45-55. Your second option is the Un’Goro Crater where you will be killing any of the dinosaurs in the area which will be ranging from levels 45-55. I personally prefer the Crater for this part but remember to start on the east side and work your way to the west if you are leveling your character as the mobs get higher level in this direction.

300-330

Learn Master Skinning

This is personally my favorite place to level and skin since there a lot of skinnable mobs and they are all over the place. You’ll be going to Hellfire Peninsula in the Outlands and you will be killing the hellboars and ravagers, they range from levels 58-63 and are all over the place and very easy to kill.

330-350

Another place I love to level skinning and my character in. Nagrand, you’ll be killing Clefthoofs and the other skinnable mobs in the area which will range from around levels 64-67.

350-375

Next up is Blade’s Edge Mountains where there are plenty of skinnable mobs, the area does get kind of annoying to find mobs in though because of all the mountains so if you have one a flying mount helps out a lot. You’ll be killing and skinning any of the beasts in the area and there are quite a bit that range from levels 65-68.

Learn Grand Master Skinning in Northrend.

375-405

Now you’ll start making a little more cash for your stacks of leather. There are two places you can go at this point both of which are in Northrend. The first is the Howling Fjord where you would be killing and skinning the Shoveltusks and Rams just east of Westguard Keep or west of Ford Wildervar. The other option you have is the Borean Tundra where you would be killing and skinning Mammoths just south of Fizzcrank’s Airstrip. I don’t really have a preference for this one personally, both are great places to level skinning. The mobs in these zones will range from levels 68-70.

405-430

Grizzly Hills is where you will go for these levels, Grizzly Hills is jam packed with skinnable mobs all over the place which consist of deer, bears, and wolves. The mobs range from around levels 73-75.

430-450

Your last stop for skinning is Sholazar Basin, another zone jam packed with skinnable mobs such as Giraffes, Crocolisks, Gorilla, and many other mobs all over the place ranging from levels 74-76.
