WoW Leatherworking Guide

The leatherworking profession in WoW can be a good money maker at a higher level, but in the earlier levels it can be a bit costly. I recommend that you either have a decent amount of gold you’re willing to work with or to pick up Skinning and level that first while keeping all of your leather that you skin.

Leatherworking is a quick skill to level if you’re willing to dish out the cash, so this will be pretty simple. A lot of going to the Auction House and just creating the items, so lets get started.

1-20

Light Leather x 19: Pick up 57 Ruined Leather Scaps from the Auction House or by Skinning it in Durotar as Horde or Elwynn Forest as Alliace. Then create 19 Light Leather.

20-30

Light Armor Kit x 10: You will be able to use 10 of your Light Leather to create these, so you won’t be required to make any purchases.

30-35

Handstitched Leather Cloak x 5: You can use the 9 remaining Light Leather that you made but you will need to purchase one more of skin it yourself. Then purchase 5 Coarse Thread from the Leatherworking Supplies Vendor and create these.

35-65

Cured Light Hide x 40: You will need to purchase 40 Light Hide, farming it is very hard as the chances of skinning this off regular mobs is VERY low and you only have a decent chance of skinning it off mobs in instances such as Wailing Caverns or Shadowfang Keep. You will also purchase 40 Salt from the leatherworking supplies vendor and create 40 of these.

65-85

Embossed Leather Gloves x 20: Go and purchase 60 Light Leather or farm it by skinning mobs in The Barrens/Elwynn Forrest and purchase 40 Coarse Thread from a vendor and create 20 of these.

85-100

Fine Leather Belt x 15: Purchase 90 Light Leather (or farm in The Barrens/Elwynn Forrest by skinning) and 30 Coarse Thread from a vendor and make 15 of these and hang on to them because you will be using them later.

100-115

Cured Medium Hide x 15: buy 15 Medium Hide (or skin it from level 20-30 mobs in The Barrens, Duskwood, Ashenvale, and 1k Needles) and purchase 15 Salt from a vendor and make 15 of these.

115-125

Dark Leather Boots x 10: Purchase 40 Medium Leather (or skin it from level 20-30 mobs in The Barrens, Duskwood, Ashenvale, and 1k Needles) and purchase 20 Fine Thread from a vendor as well as 10 Gray Dye and Create 10 of these.

125-130

Dark Leather Cloak x 5: Purchase another 40 Medium Leather (or skin it from level 20-30 mobs in The Barrens, Duskwood, Ashenvale, and 1k Needles), 5 Fine Thread from vendor as well as 5 Gray Die and create 5 of these.

Hillman’s Leather Gloves x 5: Purchase 70 Medium Leather (or skin it from level 20-30 mobs in The Barrens, Duskwood, Ashenvale, and 1k Needles) and purchase 20 Fine Thread from a vendor and create 5 of these.

150-165

265-285

Wicked Leather Bracer x 20: Acquire 160 Rugged Leather via AH or skinning mobs in Winterspring. Then purchase 20 Black Dye from a vendor and 20 Rune Thread and create 20 of these.

Now it is going to start getting very expensive or invlove a lot of leather farming so I would recommend sort of going half and half (unless you have a lot of gold or none at all) because farming all of this leather will be quite a hassle, from 300-350 you may use up to 630 Knothide Leather depending on if you level every item or not. If you’re leveling in outlands you will come across quite a bit of this leather if you have skinning as a profession however.

300-325

Knothide Armor Kit x 25-40: Acquire 100-160 Knothide Leather from either the AH or by skinning mobs in Nagrand and Blade’s Edge Mountains. You may level each item you create but sometimes it may take two.

325-330

Thick Draenic Boots x 5: Acquire 50 Knothide Leather from either the AH or by skinning mobs in Nagrand and Blade’s Edge Mountains. Purchase 15 Rune Thread from a vendor and create 5 of these.

330-350

Thick Draenic Vest x 20-30: Acquire 280-420 Knothide Leather from either the AH or by skinning mobs in Nagrand and Blade’s Edge Mountains. Purchase 60-90 Rune Thread from a vendor. You may or may not level for each item you create so thats why the amount varies.

Learn Grand Master Leatherworking

Now things are going to get VERY expensive and this is the point where you might want to be that guy who spams trade with [Leatherworking] LFW BYOM. Because if you aren’t you will be spending a ton of money or a ton of time trying to farm the required items to make these items.

350-380

Borean Armor Kit x 30-35: Acquire 120-160 Borean Leather either from the AH or by skinning any mobs in northrend (from lower level mobs you will receive Borean Leather Scraps which you can just take five and convert them into one Borean Leather) and create 30-35 of these.

380-400

Artic Gloves x 20-30: Acquire 200-300 Borean Leather either from the AH or by skinning any mobs in northrend (from lower level mobs you will receive Borean Leather Scraps which you can just take five and convert them into one Borean Leather) and create 20-30 of these.

400-410

Nerubian Leg Armor x 5-15: Acquire 20-60 Heavy Borean Leather (created from 6 Borean Leather, see above where to farm this) and 5-15 Nerubian Chitin which can be skinned from mobs in Icecrown and the instance Azjol-Nerub. You can also sell these on the AH for profit usually.

410-425

This is going to be very very very expensive if you plan to buy them, but you can sell these on the auction house for a profit. You will be making 25 of any Fur Lining Enchant and will need to farm 25 Arctic Fur which you can skin from level 75-80 mobs but the drop rate is extremely low, can also be skinned from mobs in northrend instances but the drop rate is slightly higher but still very low. Alternatively you can purchase these but then go for about 50-100g depending on your server.

425-435

Leggings of Visceral Strikes x 10-15: Acquire 120-180 Heavy Borean Leather either via AH or create them using 6 Borean Leather (see 380-400 for details on farmin borean leather) and purchase 20-30 Eternal Air in the AH or farm it from Air Elementals. You can sell these on the AH, sometimes not for profit but to pay for most of the supplies or possibly for profit.

435-440

Frosthide Leg Armor x 5-10: Acquire 10-20 Arctic Fur which you can skin from level 75-80 mobs but the drop rate is extremely low, can also be skinned from mobs in northrend instances but the drop rate is slightly higher but still very low. Alternatively you can purchase these but then go for about 50-100g depending on your server. Acquire 10-20 Nerubian Chitin which can be skinned from mobs in Icecrown and the instance Azjol-Nerub. Acquire 5-10 Frozen Orbs which are dropped from the final bosses in Heroic Instances and can be purchased with emblem of heroism or purchased on the AH for 50-100g depending on server. These can also be sold on AH for profit, I recommend finding people who need the enchant first and having them buy the materials and you make it for them.

440-450

Durable Nerubhide Cape x 10: Acquire 20 Arctic Fur, 400 Nerubian Chitin, and 10 Frozen Orbs. For details on finding these materials see 435-440, it is all the same materials. And this item can also be made for other people with their own mats or sold on the AH for profit.
