Questions for Top PvPers!

Over the next few days I’m going to be interviewing some of the top PvPer’s, and grill them on some tough questions to see what exactly takes them to the top of the ladders.

I have quite a few questions that I’m ready to ask them – but I want your input. Have you ever had a tough question (for pvp) that you couldn’t figure out? Anything from from the talent specs they use, gear, the interface, to the keyboard and mouse they use!

I want to get as many good questions to ask them as I can. So here’s how to get your question asked: Just leave a comment below in the space provided. Ask your question, and submit it. I’m going to look over every question and pick the best ones to ask these players.

I know the Warcraft Legion community is the most creative around so there’s no one better to get tough questions from then you!

Keep a look out for these interviews once they are completed!

I am continually befuddled by PVP opponents jumping around like mad. Running forward, backward, jumping over and around.

First, what are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this.

Second, how can one easily perform such acrobatics without getting your back turned towards your enemy.

Thirdly, how can one combat such an opponent during melee without pets or powerful ranged attacks.

Looking forward to hearing your reply!

  2. LoveHateLove Says:

    Hello,

I would like to know which battlegrounds they prefer and why. What best tactics for every BG is. Except for Wintergrasp because no way you can control your server glol. But how do they play in BG, do they have +resi gear equipped? Or do they just play Pvp in Raid gear? And do you have some tips for special things in resi gear which might be usefull, if it is usefull at all for Arena or Bg’s.

    Thanks,
    Lovehatelove – lightbringer EU

  3. Den Says:

Hi, How would someone like me who almost never did PVP must get started? Ho do I prepare my characterm and what are basics strategies to be successful?

    thanks,

  4. Maciek Says:

Hey, ive recently got my priest up to lvl 80, and I want to team-up with my mate rogue to play some 2v2. I just want to ask you, in the current state of the 2v2 arenas where Pala-DK teams are facerolling for epics, what serious chances do we stand against them. Also what speccs would you suggest, work best in out kind of combination, I know I should probably play disc (although after all the time playing as shadow I might find it hard to adjust at first), but what would you suggest for the rogue?

  5. Vaughn Says:

I just want to know the best PvP builds for the classes from top PvPers instead of some sites that are different from each other. Mainly rogue, since maces have been nerfed, they are just ok unless you get the best epics in the game. Just want to know about talent point distribution for the classes. Have’nt decided on one dedicated PvP char yet.

  6. Kimmie Says:

How can I as a Tankadin PVP effectively with little experience and without respecing to Ret or Holy?

  7. Tim W Says:

Although I do not consider myself a good PvPer, I will still comment.

PvP is intended to be done in groups. The smaller the scale of the PvP encounters, the wider the gaps are between classes and builds. This has created a “rock-paper-scissors” type of game that plagues 1v1 encounters. I would like to be able to defend myself. Having a retribution paladin knock off two-thirds of my health in one blow makes it too late to fire off Ice Block.

My question to top PvP magi in the game are:
How do you win over a stunlock rogue in 1v1 combat?
How do you win over a warlock in 1v1 combat?
How do you recover from a retribution paladins front-end judgement bomb to win?

Someone complained about jumping around in PvP. Standing still is a liability, especially if you are a ranged spellcaster. Any casting time is a liability. As a mage, Mirror Image helps here.

  8. Returned Says:

    Hellow
I Was wondering tht . If u were a rogue and u had aroudn 400 Resil.. what was the best PVp partner for u ? and one more questions
all rogues MOve around jump around like shit .. does tht thingi rly work on melees and i should do like em>?

  9. Bandezar Says:

I have unabashed disdain for PvP for one reason: the overwhelmingly, staggeringly, ridiculously Horde-centric nature of it. My assumption is that the designers all play Horde toons, which is fine, but I’d like to know why they would build it this way. Since you’re interviewing the top PvPers in the world, I’m guessing there won’t be many (or any) Alliance players, but I’d like their take on the unbalanced nature of this type of play.

    Thanks!

  10. bob Says:

i want to know the telt set up for the different classes. i just bought my dual spec and i wonder where i should set my talent points. Would be good with some tips on wich pet i shall use and wich talents it should have

  11. Meat Says:

    Hi,
I play a palladin, mage, and hunter in that order. I’m pretty decent with the pally as ret but usually prefer tankadin. My questions are as follows. 1. Whats the best 2v2, 3v3, for a ret pally? 2. Whats the best spec for pvp for the mage and hunter.

  12. Pandabear Says:

I play a restoration shaman in arenas and my biggest problem is always etting away from rogues. I never have enough global cooldowns to cleanse, Ghost Wolf, and heal at the same time. I’ve tried dropping both Earthbind Totem (to slow the rogue) and Poison Cleansing Totem (to get Crippling off) and the two in combination still aren’t enough to get the rogue off me. I’ve tried using NS Hex too and the rogue just hops with me and then is back on me, stunlocking me again. What do you guys do to get away from rogues that I’m not doing?

  13. xo Says:

    Hi,

i was just wondering were would be the best place to get Gear for PVPing

my second question is what is the hardest enemy to kill in PVP so that i can have some heads up when i start PVPing

  14. richwarf Says:

Have you use any of the following if so what did you think about it.
    a Gamming pad (G13 ect)
    a Gamming keyboard (G15 ect)
Normal keyboard (that come with the PC)

Cheap and nasty mouse (left and right click only no wheel)
moden mouse (left and right click, with wheel)
Good mouse (left and right click, with wheel and side buttons)
wow mouse (yes that 50$ one)

Feet pads (made to play racing games, but you can use them in WoW a guildie told me)

If you use somthing diffent what do you use?

What class do you play and what classes do you hate running into and why?
(I played shaman, pallys and hunters and i HATE rogs and pallys, rogs cos they can keep you saped the whole time there killing you, pallys cos you got to kill them 2 times (bubble heal))

  15. Ogherac Says:

What Battlegound do you like the most??

  16. Smellco McGraw Says:

I’ve noticed that PvP went down the drain a while ago. Arenas are just bad, it gets repetitive to play with the same group of 3 AFKers, 8 10 year olds and 4 good players in SotA. Wintergrasp is kind of fun, but PvP ends up getting repetitive. My question is, what do you think could improve this, and is Blizzard going to do much about it?

    Thanks

  17. Klon Says:

Whenever i enter a BG i always notice there is a horde toon that it 2 or 3 lvls below me, but instead of taking him/her out quickly and cleanly he/she always takes me out and I barely do any damage to his/her toon, what could i do to my toon in order to be exactly like that? (im lvl 72, but havent been in a battle ground since lvl 70)

  18. Adrian U Says:

Hey I was wonderin what would be a good pvp spec for a of 38 rogue and if you could, could you send me a good talent build for it. Thank you

  19. Grimsborith Says:

I’m a Dwarven warrior. I’m really good against NPCs, but when it comes to PvP I’m always owned by paladins and rouges multiple levels below me. I don’t know if this has to do with my class, or my brute force tactics (charge and swing ax). If you have any advice that would be great.

  20. Genekri Says:

My Main is a Rogue, and personally I’ve never really like PvP, but recently i have taken interest in it, however with minimal success. My question truly how does one go from zero to hero in PvP?

  21. Roughneck Says:

Hi, I have a lvl80 Human Warrior 600 res. In bg’s or WG i last 4 seconds a fight. have never won a duel or a 1 on 1 fight with any class except lower lvl or another warrior. What i would like to know is whats the best buffs for me Crit, Hit, stam, agil,or expertise armour pen ? 10,000 kills but slow rate at getting them. Many thanks

  22. Jonny Says:

Hey, im a lvl 75 gnome warrior( i know your all laughing… but i kick ass against most npcs) and when ever i go into a bg i allways get owned by paladins and rogues. And latley i’ve been regreting making my warrior and thinking about lvling a pally or a DK….. but A. i cant level for crap
. and B. i’ve havnt really played any other classes e xcept for a shaman so i have no idea what spells and stuff to use in pvp.

  23. Mike Says:

PvP – we hear so much about it- how about those who never pvp and rely on raids and instances and rep to get gear – how could we learn effectively how to PvP?

  24. river Says:

ok i have a question for you twinks out there (17 to 19) how do you feel about blizz last patch destroying the gear you paid huge amounts of gold to buff. exp the head and shoulder buffs and cleft hide leg armor to be more specific. i understand this was to bring all the players to a near same levle of playing but it still wont hapen you either pvp or you dont those that do will still rape the casual players and keep them whining about being unfair. my question is who is going to pay me back for all the stuff blizz aloud me to purchace even right before the patch . i mean comon i had 5 twinks on 3 servers i now have 1 and thats only because he is my mail auctioneer alt. anyone else just pissed or am i (and i am ) just nuts?

  25. Kim (Mr.) Says:

Did lot of PvP and want to comment. I mainly play a human pala at the moment and have a hunter soon 80 also and some lower levels toons. I’ve observed 2 things to pay attention to. 1. Group together, in arena you stay close also. It’s for buff and aura reasons, getting healed. Think of it as the opposing team being an instance. 2. Get good epic gear fast and enchant etc. as much you can – If you start with blue gear and at max level in any BG you won’t be killed instantly. A third thing is don’t make suicide – I often see in BG’s a line of 1 by 1 coming off the grave yard and attack a big group, die – other team having a laugh – look at the situation first, whether you should run away because you are one, they are two – or are stronger than them because you are 5 – healer, tank, dps, ranged, you attack, get a flag etc. Later you will want to be an engineer with big bombs and rocket boots, but you choose your profession. I have enchant and tailor on my pala and theres a bit of twink items or unique things to put on gear in most professions.

  26. Stephane Says:

I would like to know how it is possible to accumulate over 2k rating. I have been on PvP servers and i have seen these characters that go bragging about their 2.5k rating and i am sick of not being able to brag about my own. Thanks

  27. dec Says:

I was wondering what the best pvp spec for my hunter would be, if i am doing a 2v2 with a feral druid. Also, is this comp viable, and if so, what strategy should we use?

  28. Aritase Says:

Mike, you are asking how to learn to PvP.
Now, i dont know what class you are playing, but for doing PvP, most classes need resilience.
Try to get some VoA PvP loot, and get a level 80 PvP trinket. You can get PvP trinkets from Wintergrasp(WG), by paying 25 WG marks, and you can get PvP trinket from honor, in the place where you can buy PvP gear (Orgrimmar for horde).
Now when you have started, you should do alot of duels and battlegrounds, to learn the other classes, and what they can do. You could also get a arena team (at this moment its not possible, since 3.1 just arrived, just wait 4 days).

  29. Aritase Says:

Roughneck, i would suggest you to bind your spells/abilities. Im sure you have heard of Keybindings.
If you have never used keybindings before, and instead, klicked your abilities; start slow, keybind 1-4 abilities, and try to use those abilityes alot, by klicking on your keyboard, not your mouse.
When you are a bit more comfortable with those 1-4 keybindings, make some more.

    Keybindings i use : §, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, q, e, r, t, f, <, z, x, c, v, shift space, mousewheel, 2 extra mouse buttons, tab, shift+alot of the above bindings, ctrl+alot of the above

  30. Aritase Says:

Genekri, from zero to hero requires you to do ALOT of PvP.
The easy step: practice, practice and practice even more.
Try to keybind at least your most important spells.

    Watch some movies on Warcraftmovies.com
Alot of PvP movies, from all classes, over all levels, is posted here.
    Lot of Pro PvP movies.
one of many to watch : Buddhist

  31. Sam Says:

Why is the blink cooldown 24 secs, when everything else for every other class is alot shorter?

  32. trassy Says:

iv always wanted to go agienst pvp but i wanna a know how did you lvl so quick
can you give me this advice so i can go pvp?.

  33. Archious Says:

first off Trassy these are pvp questions not lvling questions.

second what is the best possible combo with a DK?

  34. Taylor Says:

Spec for mage for pvp. Arcane? or Frost? And for warrior for pvp. Fury? or arms? Pros and cons for each. TY.

  35. Gulani Says:

Hi i have been trying over and over to find a good pvp spec and dominate the battlegrounds but i always do to rouges being cheap palidans stunning me and warlocks fearing me is they any tips that i can use to dominate the battlegrounds?

  36. Chris Says:

How can I tank effectively as a prot warrior? I have looked at tank guides and they make sense to a point then it just gets confusing. I just want to know what abilities to use to effectively hold aggro and how to maintain it the easiest.

  37. Zoinz Says:

    Hi

I would like to know how much pvp gear would be good to have to totally rule pvp in arenas and i would also like to know a good way to win bgs and i at last also would like to know a good way to grind honor :)

  38. John Says:

I was just wondering what other top Holy Paladins wear when they are in arena and BGs. I see some of them with high rated arena teams that wear pretty much all 25 man Naxxramas gear and others with full Deadly/Hateful.

Seeing that Holy Paladins have more survivability than most other classes with Divine Shield, does it make sense to do this and stack resilience instead of other stats that increase your healing abilities?

So essentially I need to know should I wear PvE gear in arenas and BGs or PvE gear? And also what should sorts of gems should I put in the correct type of gear? (for PvP)

  39. John Says:

Sorry for my last comment I meant to say “…should I wear PvE gear in arenas and BGs or *PvP* gear?” not PvE or PvE.

  40. Steve Says:

I’ve seen alot of DK/Paladin 2v2 teams and thats all fine and dandy but im really wondering, whats the best 3v3 and 5v5 teams. I seem to get conflicting ideas on everything, heals, CC, ranged, everything. Also, I saw that warlocks have been doing better, but i seem to be at the same stage. Is there a new spec that I might have missed, as of now I am Destruction and a little of Demon just for the defense and succubus. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

    Lexanis (Exodar)
    :)

  41. Tyler Says:

What do you like about PvP because im thinking about starting it??

  42. wannaberogue Says:

Hey, i have a lvl 80 rogue and a 70 rogue.. so i have alot of experience regarding rogues. However i never really got the hang of being one of the better rogues out there.. I duel and duel, but without much luck.. sometimes things go perfectly, and i win, even against top rated players.. But what i have trouble with is my reaction.. i want to know what you have keybinded ? as in everything you keybind :) I myself only use some keybindings, and resorting to using the mouse way to often, basicly giving me even larger reaction time..
I would also like to know what partners for 2v2 can a rogue play with, and be succesful with ? I have tried most of em.. including disc priest, resto druid, another rogue and a mage.. I have not have any luck so far in this season, as i have only reached 1690 for all time highest.. thats with a disc priest..
Any advices what i need to do, or even whom i should partner up with ?
What about the gear ? i see alot of pvpers, including the well knows ones, such as akrios, unmercey etc who use pve gear.. is this caus they play with a mage ? being as you either get one down fast, or you lose either way .. ??
Do you have any strats as to beat the classes in 1v1 duels ? Ive tried head to head, even tried restarting the duels, but with no luck.. this is mostly against healing classes.. such as shamans, priests, paladins and druids :p
    basicly all of them :(
As far as the other dps’ers ive managed to have about a 50/50 chance of winning.. though winning against dk and mages, especially good ones, is extremely hard..
Is there any videos out there, or any strats i should check out ? any help would be appreciated ! :)

  43. Andrew Says:

hey ya, ive been playing a spriest for a few years now and finally got the courage to attempt pvp with her again. the reason i say “courage” is because of spending ages at 70 getting owned in arena and getting virtually nowhere. with the new tallent changes from 3.10 I think i might stand a chance in arena again but figuring out the right class combination is proving a little difficult, as well as an effective play style to work with. any pointers in this direction would be greatly appreciated.

    thankyou

  44. Lightbright Says:

    1) Resto druids are no longer the kings/queens they used to be in arena, but what class combinations work best in 2s and 3s?

    2) Can you share your strategy for keybinding (regardless of class, I’d just like some general tips) and how it’s helped you in pvp?

  45. Kevin Says:

all i want to know are specs for rogue and paladin. How a rogue can BS and dominate in two shots. And also how does a paladin bubble so fast that it makes them nigh impossible to defeat?

  46. Rakuda Says:

People hop around because it makes them harder to acquire them as a target, at first, and once targeted, it makes them harder to hit, if you are a melee class. For this reason, when engaged in pvp combat, one should already have in place as many ways to stop or limit movement as possible. If your opponent is feared, you can load them up with DoTs as an aff. lock; if your opponent is Cheap Shotted, you have a window with which to work with them as you would a standard mob. So when picking a spec to pvp with, DO NOT pick any talents having to do with Threat, and DO pick as many talents as you can that give you instant-cast damage or heals, interrupts, stuns, and movement limits. Make as many macros as you need to get all of your trinkets, racial abilities, and spells/talents with CDs into regular rotation. Limit the number of keys you need to push. Then you can hop around with the best of those annoying nelf warriors, stunlock them, and Mutilate them down into the dust… lol

  47. Slimebucket Says:

I used to pvp, but quit for many reasons

    1) the play style of run around like an idoit, back and forth, THROUGH the player RIGHT as the spell is going to cast is annoying as ****. The reason people do that is so casters get the “TARGET MUST BE INFRONT OF YOU”

They need to make it like NPC’s when they cast spells, when the spell cast timers up they automatically point towards the target and cast it. Or make it so you cannot run back and forth THROUGH characters like nothing was there (in PVP that is… make it so u can still pass thoguh people so you can’t get blocked, but make it so you move slower, or have to jump past or something!)

    2) before WotLK all u would see in PVP is rogues. Now its DK’s and rogues.
Caster classes in PVP are at a huge disadvantage. Sure we can do lots of AOE effects, CC, fear, dot’s and all that, but its usually the melee classes that finish off enemies and get all the kill points and honor points….

casters are good for utility stuff, healing and support stuff, and because of that, do not gain HONOR as quickly as melee classes. Being a caster in a PUG PvP is horrible, because everyone targets you first, you dont get many killing blows, and because it is a pug no one really protects you.

    3) Too many glitches / cheap tricks that abuse the game mechanics

Druids can get out of fear by shape shifting really really fast like 5 times (I cant count the amount of times in WSG when a druid has the flag, is about to cap it, I fear em, they change form really really quickly, and while the fear thing is still above there heads they run right to the flag and cap it.

Line of Sight gets abuse soo bad… “hah im standing behind this small peice of wood and cloth.. there for you cannot cast spells towards! Or people that stand at a pole, and just run around it in cicles constantly so if anyone tries casting something at them they get TARGET NOT IN LINE OF SIGHT.

    4) Blizz changes the classes to much. As soon as I get used to all the stategies to playing against each cleass, blizz releases a patch that changes all the classes, and now I have to re learn every single class, so that I can better understand them when I fight them in PVP

    5) They expect me to pay EXTRA to get into the PVP tournement servers? wtf im already paying $15 a month… if I want to pay EXTRA to get to the extra pvp tournement server I would just buy WAR and play that.

    6) They need to make gear that can be used for both PVP and Raids (kinda like that staff of domaniance back in lvl 60 days.. where it is one time, you right click on it, and it becomes a second item) because I have no room for PVP gear set. I have my PvE set, back up PvE set, potions, food, scrolls, about 8 different trinkets, a few quest items, and my bank is totally full.

    7) they should make it you can get PvE gear with honor as well. I can get PvP gear with PvE emblems and tokens… why cant I get PvE gear with PvP honor and emblems? Many PvE guilds get upset when someone is PVPing and not gearing up for PVE. So these players can’t play PVP they want to, because they have to do instant runs, rep farm ect ect. It is like they dev’s making 2 totally different games, and putting them into 1. It is silly, if you want PVE gear you cannot get anything from PVP so your forced to PVE. If you could get some PVE gear from PVP then a lot of people wouldn’t be so “WTF u doing PVPing?!?! we got guild raids and u need to get PVE geared!!!”

    8) It gets boring. As a warlock I spend 90% of my PVP time sapped, disoriented, or affected by something that takes away my control from my character. Or, fighting against healers who do nothing but heal themselves, it takes forever..

So basically How I feel about PvP is… if you want to do it, roll a rogue. Thats mainly what rogues built for. Run around like an idoit all the time, like ur a chicken with its head cut off, running though the person as much as you can, like u where some type of ghost, sap and stun lock as much as possible.

This is a random comment, but I also think they should make 1 CLASS ONLY battles.

like 10 on 10, 10 warlocks vs 10 warlocks, or 10 dk’s vs 10 dks, or 2v2 and 3v3 where its all the same class. Then it would really be a test of skill, and people couldn’t complain they lost because the other persons class is cheap.

  48. Emasculater Says:

    Hi there!

My question is, how do you manage to stay updated with all current bugs that you can “exploit” for your own good and keep up you succes as a pro gamer?

    - This is meant for Swifty if you get the chance to talk to him.

  49. Roughneck Says:

HI, Just to update my comment. Have now duel specked Arms/ Prot. Man i cant belive the difference. Dropped my first solo shammy yesterday and mage. Spell reflect and sheild bash are awsome. That combined with the warriors ability to charge on cooldown now. Have jewled for resillance now and at 725. But would still like to know whats best Hit or Crit???

  50. Rabid_Larry Says:

I am a discipline priest in full hateful. I’ve been pvp’ing for years now. I found I can beat each and every class when it comes to 1 on 1 and can survive for a long time when I’m outnumbered. Still, if there’s one class that’s ever given me the slightest of problems, it’s restoration druids. It’s not so much a big deal when 1 on 1, I normally just run away or try to mana-burn them. But the real annoyance comes when I’m in the arena, even after trying with multiple classes, I always manage to lose a healing battle against druids. Unlike druids, I can’t get away from ensnares whenever I want to, I don’t wear leather, I can’t go 30% faster when I feel like it, and I can’t stealth or heal poisons or curses. They are better pillar humpers, and always have more mana than me. Plus cyclone, which half the time I don’t feel is worth a trinket use, leading to my partner’s death.

    My question is:

What can I do? which class do I have to work with to beat resto druids in the arena?

I’ve tried mana-burning, outhealing, bursting with my partner and other complicatd strategies, but none have yet to work. Please help, thanks in advance.
