PvP Isn’t What It Used To Be
Remember that first time you stepped outside of city boundaries, onto a contestant part of the region? Let us indulge in reminiscence the first time you saw that ill-mannered, red named, corpse-camping Allie/Horde. Your heart pounded through your chest, your fingers stiff as yesterday’s toast, and your lips quivered as you mutter to yourself “What do I do?” You just stand there, both staring at each other, planning each other’s next move. Then it happened, it was over before you even realized it had started. Whether you won or lost, you cherished that moment to be your first PvP encounter. It’s sad to see that things are different now, and that it was a thing of the past.
Nowadays, PvP has changed for the worse. Whether you’re Alliance or Horde, you’re always going to find those people that won’t want to do crud for a single match of fun PvP. “Eh how many are there?” or “Are they camping you?” and my all time favorite “Can’t right now, questing.” What happened to the good ‘ole Alliance vs. Horde, no matter the numbers. Fighting and defending your stronghold for fun, honor, and respect. Not because there’s a reward item in the end. I know every time I walk around Shattrath City, I get plenty of waves from the opposing faction who has battled with me. That feeling is way better than and reward or silly loot items. Nonetheless, PvP in general has been outplayed to a new extreme. There are still plenty of people out there that think like I do, but I just keep running into the wrong crowd.
How about your first experience with PvP? Did you think it was just as fun as everyone had mentioned, or was it just a method of driving you mad and smashing your fists into your keyboard while screaming “Hulk smash!” Did you stand tall in victory when you took on your challenger, or did you have no choice but to back off?

Just wanted to comment on PVP. I think pvp would be alot better if certain things did not happen. For instance, you are fighting a mob and have it to half life when you get attacked by Alli/Horde, you win the battle so that toon calls for a couple of 70’s to come and kill you since they couldn’t do it theirselve’s.

No disrespect to Leveling Guides, but most including Derek’s tout how quickly you can level using the guide, so most of us simply go from one quest to the next. PvP in the wilderness just slows me down and is a pain in the butt…
I think if the creators want the battle between both forces to enhanced, then XP needs to be added for killing the opposition (in addition to honor) or taking over a town or city. This could be done in large raiding parties with objectives in the town or city and XP split based on the number in the party.

I don’t like twinks, i think they take the fun out of BGs, especial for new people trying to learn the game.

i remember the days as a young paladin going out on my first solo quests no lvl 70 big brother to protect me i believe i was a 22 back then and my first pvp encounter snuck me from behind lvl 70 rogues 5 of them killed me before i knew what hit me. then they laughed and spit on me then camped me for 3 1/2 hours continuous killing because i was told to never use the spirit healer…….finally had to log just to get away …so my opinoin it sucks i think you should only be able to battle near your lvl unless a lower lvl initiates then its fair game

My first PvP experience as a low-lvl Alliance Rogue was to be ganked by some passing Orc while crossing the road somewhere east of Darkshire.
Since some players on both sides are guilty of killing opposing-faction players far below their own level, and only a few players are descent enough to NOT attack other players who’s level number appears grey; I propose a rule change that you can not attack opposing-faction players who’s number is three or more levels below yours and may only attack opposing-faction players who’s number is NO MORE THAN three levels above yours.
As such a level 30 may only attack another player who’s numbers are: 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33.
My reasoning being that I’ve taken out single Horde players three levels above mine, but I’ve also been ganged-up on by horde players in a group that were three or more levels below mine.

I specifically chose a PvE server (Dragonblight) to completely *ignore* adverse player ‘intervention’. I want to play, not be constantly on my guard.

I think, alot of people would tell you these exact word “Its your fault for being there at the wrong time…” and i know it gets pretty anyoing but why would you play on a PVP server if you dont like that kinda of shit happening?

Not to mention the anger alot of the PVP server player would have with a change like that.. it would be hectic

PVP is why I play WoW over many other mmo’s out there. The purpose of “ganking” lower level opposing faction these days is in the hope that they will bring their “main” so you can kill them too. As far as changing the rules of engagement, nah, it’s a kill or be killed world in WoW. The Alliance and Horde are at war. So NOT being able to kill someone of the opposing faction in a contested area wouldn’t really flow. Plus, it’s so cool to run up to a lower lvl meeting stone on my mage and wipe out an entire group of alli with just a few aoe blasts. While we are on the subject Derek, I see a strong need for class specific pvp guides. So many people rush to 70 and have little pvp skills. And by that time there are so many buttons to push their overwhelmed, and over complicate a pvp encounter. I think someone coming out with some serious class specific pvp strat guides would be a great addition and benefit people who realy lack the skill.

The PvP in WoW is why people from all over have come to hate the PvP’er. There is no PvP only massive disparities between the aggressor and the victim, because there is no even footing here. Its become a cowardly means of getting a quick thrill. Spent any time at Raven Hill or Redridge? If you have then you’ll know what it is to have some 70th level adolesant (Note: it may be 40 year old adolesant) acting out their anti-social behavior that they know would get them turned into paste if they tried it in RL. What PvP needs is some serious control measures to be implemented to try and mitigate all the griefing that has become so prevalent.
There is no true PvP in any game that I’ve played in years, its all become a gankfest for a vocal few that are to cowardly to go out and embrace life. They make Rogues or Druids that can skulk around without being seen so as to not become ganked themselves and look for a player that has no hope of defeating them in turn and then one shot this new victim. This then turns in a camping event because this creep isn’t satisfied with just killing them once they have to actually take something from this player and that being their enjoyment of the game. If it happens too often the player cancels their subscription and the gaming company looses out on revenue talk about self defeating.

Much like the first poster, my experience with world PvP has been limited only to 70’s who gank everybody they see.
It’s discouraging. Nobody my level wants to PvP, and there are bored 70’s roaming around in contested zones so they can kill everybody there and then camp them so they can’t get away. Why is that fun to people? I don’t respect those who do that, not everybody has a high-lvl alt. And wtf is up with spitting on people’s bodies? Did I do something to you to make you so angry, or are you just an arse, Mr. Gank Lowbies? And then when you complain about it, you’re told you’re a baby??? So people LIKE getting ganked, is that what they’re saying?!
I rolled PvE because I was sick of the constant flood of 70’s running after me. It’s been better and more rewarding, and can still PvP when I see a player my level who is toggled. Even then you can’t get away from the getting ganked by 70’s thing. Recently I attacked someone who was toggled for PvP in the Plaguelands, and what comes after me a few minutes later?! That same person, and their fully epic’d druid friend. They both teamed up on me, and then they camped my body all the way back to the Argent Dawn’s camp before getting killed by the guards, even managing to find me when I res’d at a spirit healer. (And yes . . . they still ganked me all the way back.)
And then, while I was in the camp trying to get my PvP to toggle back so I could go back to questing, this 70 rogue attacks me. Over and over again. Luckily there were guards there and he couldn’t quite kill me even with res sickness because they’d stun him when they saw him. He kept going until I was untoggled and I could finally get over my res sickness in peace. Tell me, rogues out there, how impressive is it for you to kill someone who is 12 levels below you and res sick?
So I’m glad you had such a great experience with PvP, Derek, but I’ve never had world PvP go on without at least one 70 showing up to kill me afterwards. How is that “badass” or “cool,” honestly? Can anybody who does this explain to me the rationale?

Gaaah I just noticed. Article written by Mafioso. Replace “Derek” with “Mafioso,” lol.

my first exp with pvp was actualy in the bgs. at that time there was only one place to pvp all out and that was silverwing outpost and from there the bg warsong gulch, you had to be atleast lev 20 to join in and had to go there to do it. now if you took all the time to run there ( even mounted it is a fair hike) then i assume you want to pvp lol. yes i have been ganked since but i never learn lol. when im in sent hill on some low alt just taking a break from the 70s/80s grind and i see a lev (skull) attacking i attack lol im on a pve server so its my choice and i allways choose death before dishounor, btw im addicted to pvp battleground style but i have never rolled nor will i roll on a pvp server . i just like playing to much to be pissed all the time lol . allso for those that get camped on a pve server heres a hint. dont click res untill your toon is showing ( player ) not (player pvp) if your not flagged they cant harm you when its safe (5 min from last hit you made) res and go about your questing. oh and incedently those horde( and allways is witch is why i say horde) who spit on you after they win or to get you to attack. i say it must be fun being 10 .
